Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Hello!


Please nominate any Alabama K-6 teacher who exhibit strong and exemplary leadership with colleagues and teaching math and science in the classroom!


The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is now accepting K-6 nominations with an application deadline of May 3, 2010.
Visit the site to complete the nomination form at www.paemst.org and view the guidelines.

Workshop registration is now open through STIPD (https://pdweb.alsde.edu/pdweb/) for January 29, 2010 which will lead nominees through the application process. I will provide assistance and mentorship through their completion.

Compressed Training at AMSTI - JSU

AMSTI Compressed training is for teachers who have attended year 1 and Year 2 Summer Institutes and have changed grade levels or need to train on another middle or high school kit.
AMSTI does not cover the cost of substitutes nor stipend for compressed training during the school year.

Deadline to register for compressed training is November 10 for 2nd and 3rd grade Year 1 math which is on Nov 13.


All other session, regardless of the date of the session, the deadline is November 17. Classes will be canceled if there no one registers by November 17. THANKS

We Care Grants from Westinghouse- Anniston

We Care grants from Westinghouse-Anniston. There are 25 $500 grants available to teachers of math, science & technology. Applications were mailed yesterday to all the schools, public & private. Compressed Training

SCIENCE
AMSTI compressed training is only for AMSTI teachers changing grades.
It is NOT for new hires.

AMSTI is partnering with the Alabama Science Teacher’s Association (ASTA) to provide K-5 Year 1 Science Compressed Training in conjunction with the 2009 ASTA Fall Conference.
Compressed training:
o When: Monday, October 19 8:00 – 3:30
o Where: McWane Science Center
o Who: AMSTI trained teachers who have changed grade levels.
o Deadline to register with AMSTI : September 1
o Sessions offered:
§ Kindergarten : Weather
§ 1st Grade: Animals Two by Two
§ 2nd Grade: Solids and Liquids
§ 3rd Grade: Plant Growth and Development
§ 4th Grade: Electric Circuits
§ 5th Grade: Microworlds
Compressed training participants must be approved in advance of the conference by Tanya Barnes – deadline for submitting names is Sept. 1, 2009
Attendees must pre-register and attend the ASTA conference on October 20, 2009
o ASTA conference cost $40.0
o Tanya will send the registration form once the teacher is approved to attend compressed training.
Information for compressed training of other kits will be sent at a later time.
No on-site registrations will be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE: Compressed Training is NOT required for any teacher. It is OFFERED on a limited basis according to Guidelines adopted by AMSTI SDE. NO PAYMENT is provided for teachers who attend Compressed Training (no stipend, travel or sub reimbursement). All expenses associated with attendance of the training session(s) are the responsibility of the teacher

AMSTI is partnering with ACTM to provide Grade K-5 Math compressed training in conjunction with the 2009 ACTM Fall Forum.
AMSTI compressed training is only for teachers changing grades.

“Full Conference” registration includes compressed training and the reception on Thursday, October 15, admission to the regular and extended sessions on Friday, October 16, and lunch on Friday. No on-site registration
For a nonmember of ACTM, the suggestion is to join ACTM for $15 and then register as an ACTM member. This saves the person $5.00 and also gets them a year’s membership in ACTM. They receive a subscription to the ACTM journal and are also eligible to apply for an ACTM teacher grant. Membership forms are available at www.alabamamath.org.
“Thursday Only” registration includes the compressed training on Thursday, October 15, and the reception on Thursday evening.

o Where: The ACTM Fall Forum on the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) campus off of Taylor Road (I-85, Exit 9)
